Overseas Exchange

4 Parents

Selborne Primary has an extensive Overseas Exchange Programme. It has been operational since 1992 when our first boys ventured over to Brockhurst in Berkshire in the UK and boys reciprocated by spending some time at Selborne Primary.

Our programme has grown since those fledgling years and now we have exchanges with St Olaves in York and Millfield in Somerset as well.

The boys going to Brockhurst spend between eight and nine weeks at the school .They are accommodated in the hostel and are fully integrated into both hostel and school life. It is always a pleasure to see how these boys respond to the challenge of life at another school and country.

The boys going to Millfield and St Olaves are hosted by parents of the school and they spend about five weeks away from home. They spend four to five weeks at the school and four days travelling through London with Selborne Staff.

The staff go over on school visits and spend time in and around classrooms for a period of two weeks. The schools that have been visited in the past are: Parish Church School in Corydon, Brockhurst, St Olaves, Millfield, Clifton in Bristol, Hermitage Prep, The Dragon School in Oxford and Cheltenham Prep. in Cheltenham.

The London Experience takes the boys to a number of famous places. Theses include: The Natural Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, Imperial War Museum, Madam Tussards, London Eye, Travel on the Thames to Greenwich, a Broadway show, usually Lion King, Camden Market, Speakers Corner and the gardens, Westminster Abby and the Parliament Buildings including Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and ten Downing Street. A visit to Chelsea Stadium, Covent Gardens and Piccadilly Circus. The boys always love going to Hamleys and the Apple Ipod Store not forgetting Harrods.

The programme is open to all learners from Grade 6 at Selborne.
